A 38-year-old man was found dead in his car in Brooklyn after he was shot five blocks away early Sunday, police said.
Shots rang out on Ocean Drive near Surf Ave., a dead-end block leading to Coney Island’s Riegelmann Boardwalk, about 1:30 a.m., cops said.
Police canvassing the area found the victim in a car on W. 35th St. near Bayview Ave., about five blocks from the shooting.
The victim had been shot in the chest and arm and died at the scene, cops said. His name was not immediately released.
Police learned of the shooting through the NYPD’s ShotSpotter system, a network of 2,000 sensors around the city, mostly in high crime areas, designed to pick up the sound of possible gunfire.
It was not immediately clear if the victim was already inside his car, which police believe he used to flee the gunfire, when he was shot.
No arrests have been made. Cops were scouring the area for surveillance video that could help them identify any suspects.
