NEW JERSEY (WABC) — A massive fire engulfed a New Jersey Transit bus on the New Jersey Turnpike on Tuesday.
NewsCopter 7 was over the northbound side of the turnpike just past Newark Liberty International Airport, where flames could be seen erupting from a bus.
A bus is on fire on the NJ Turnpike near Newark Airport.
The fire department arrived on the scene around 5:30 p.m., and within minutes, put out the fire.
Eyewitness News spoke to passengers who were on the bus, headed from Newark to New York City, who said it appeared to hit a pothole, and then started to smoke.
They say 25 to 30 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the fire. Fortunately, they were able to self evacuate from the bus.
Port Authority New York/New Jersey said to expect delays in the north tube of the Lincoln Tunnel to New Jersey due to a disabled bus.
No further details have been provided so far.
