Two teenagers from Bucks County are facing charges after police say they were inspired by ISIS to throw explosives into a crowd of protesters outside the New York City mayor’s official residence, according to officials. The suspects, 18-year-old Emir Balat and 19-year-old Ibrahim Kayumi, allegedly threw explosives that did not detonate, police said. “This is very much in keeping with the trend that we are seeing among ISIS-inspired adherents, both in the country as well as throughout the West. Younger and younger individuals who are radicalizing and mobilizing to violence,” said New York City Police Department Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism Jessica Tisch.Officials said the teenagers appeared in front of the mayor’s mansion as part of a counter-protest. The original protest was organized by far-right activist Jake Lang against Muslims in America. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who is Muslim, addressed the attack, saying, “While I found this protest appalling, I will not waver in my belief that it should be allowed to happen. Ours is a free society where the right to peaceful protest is sacred. It does not belong only to those we agree with.
