A man died and 10 other people suffered injuries after a vehicle crashed into another, causing a chain reaction collision with other vehicles on a Brooklyn road on Tuesday.
The incident took place at around 6:45 p.m., when officials received a call regarding the multi-car collision. A vehicle operated by the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) was traveling on Avenue S when it was struck by a van heading north on West 11th Street in the Gravesend section of the borough.
As a result, the FDNY truck then collided with an Access-A-Ride van, which ended up hitting a Lexus SUV, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
Emergency medical responders took five FDNY members to a local hospital. The driver of the van that first struck the FDNY truck was taken to NYU Langone Hospital. The operator of the Access-A-Ride van and three of its passengers were taken to NYC Health&Hospital South Brooklyn.
According to police, a 78-year-old man on the Access-A-Ride van died at the hospital. The cause of death was not made public as of Tuesday night.
The Lexus driver was also taken to a local hospital. None of the victims have been identified by the officials.
An investigation remains underway.
