BROOKLYN, NY — A deadly chain-reaction crash involving an FDNY fire truck left a man dead and several others injured in Brooklyn Tuesday night, officials said.
Police said the collision happened around 6:45 p.m. in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn, when an FDNY fire truck with its lights and sirens activated struck a Ford Transit van at Avenue S and West 11th Street.
The impact triggered a chain reaction that sent the fire truck into an Access-A-Ride vehicle, which then hit a Lexus SUV before the truck struck two parked cars, according to officials.
Emergency crews took multiple people to local hospitals, including several firefighters, the driver of the commercial van, the Access-A-Ride driver and passengers and the occupants of the Lexus, authorities said.
Police said the man who died was a 78-year-old passenger in the Access-A-Ride vehicle.
At least 10 others, including six firefighters, were hospitalized in stable condition, according to officials.
Authorities have not yet publicly identified the 78-year-old man or the other victims as the investigation continues.
