NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A burglary suspect has been taken into custody after police stormed a Westchester home.

On Tuesday, around 4:50 p.m., New Rochelle police rushed to a reported burglary in progress at a home on Stephenson Boulevard.

A 911 caller reported hearing the sound of glass breaking and then seeing an unknown man entering the home through a side window. The caller provided a description and remained on the line with dispatch, providing real-time updates as officers were on the way.

Upon arrival, police established a perimeter around the property to contain the scene and prevent escape, the NRPD said. A tactical entry team then entered the home to search for the suspect.

That suspect was soon found hiding in a second-floor bedroom closet, according to police. He was taken into custody without incident or injury to officers or the suspect.

Leonard Wisher, 65, of Yonkers was charged with burglary and criminal mischief.

No residents were home at the time of the incident, and there were no reported injuries, according to authorities.
