The Effingham County High School Rebel Regiment is ready to march to the Big Apple!The band will leave Sunday for a historic trip to New York City. The Rebel Regiment was chosen to march in the 265th edition of the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.Not only will the band march in the parade, the Rebel Regiment will lead the procession and escort the grand marshal down Fifth Avenue and through Manhattan.Over 200 student musicians, volunteers, coaches and parents will make the trip to New York. The group will hold their final practice in Springfield Friday afternoon and then board chartered buses on Sunday.”So proud of these kids, they’ve worked so hard to get here,” said Will Alford, Director of the Rebel Regiment. Taking over 200 student musicians to New York City is no easy task. The Rebel Regiment held several fundraisers to help offset the cost of the trip to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.”This trip to New York City is the next step for this program,” said Alford. “I can’t wait to see where they go from here.”The trip to New York a fitting reward for the most successful year in Rebel Regiment history. The band claimed Grand Champion at every competition during the season.The New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Tuesday, March 17.
