New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo recently shared an entertaining story about his first encounter with head coach John Harbaugh during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.
The moment captured Skattebo’s outgoing personality right away and set a lighthearted tone for their relationship.
Skattebo explained the awkward yet funny meeting.
“My first meeting was — I was actually doing PT when he was being interviewed — I turned around and I see all of our owners, and I didn’t know Coach Harbaugh was there, and I turned around and was like, ‘Wassuppppp!’ And Coach Harbaugh peeked his head around the corner and he’s like, ‘That must be Skatt.’ And they all started laughing,” Skattebo recalled. “He got a good little taste of who I was in the first 30 seconds.”
Beyond the amusing introduction, Skattebo expressed enthusiasm about Harbaugh’s vision for the offense and his own fit within it.

“He sees the way I play the game and told me he respects the way I run the ball,” Skattebo said. “The offense that he’s implementing is downhill running, and it’s perfect for what I am. . . I’m glad that he’s here and I’m part of this, because it’s going to be fun.”
Skattebo also highlighted the excitement surrounding the addition of fullback Patrick Ricard, who recently agreed to terms with the Giants.
“It’s going to be pretty exciting,” Skattebo said. “It’s awesome to have him. I know he’s going to bring juice (and) energy ball to the team. I’m ready to play with him, and I know the other guys are. When you’ve got 305 pounds running at you at linebacker, and you still have a 220-pound running back coming at you after that, it’s not a fun sight to see. I’m excited for fourth-and-1 and third-and-1.”
The anecdote underscores the positive early chemistry building in New York under Harbaugh’s leadership, blending humor with high expectations for a physical, run-heavy approach.
