Originally founded in 1968 to champion artists of African descent, The Studio Museum reopened in November 2025 after seven years of construction at 144 West 125 St. The institution functions as a gallery for artists as well as a library, community meeting area, a gift shop and a rooftop garden.

Similarly, the Frick Collection reopened with new rooms in April 2025 after a $220 million restoration in time for its 90th anniversary. Dubbed “one of the world’s greatest museums,” it showcases European art, spanning the Renaissance through the late 19th century, in the original home of Henry Clay Frick. The renovation also made way for a new exhibition gallery, auditorium, education room, restaurant, coffee bar and restored Garden.

The “World’s Greatest Places of 2026” list features everything from hotels to restaurants, attractions to museums and cruises to parks. Destinations worldwide were chosen based on submissions from TIME’s international network of correspondents, contributors and reader applications.

“Travel trends can shift quickly, of course, and global events can reshape itineraries. Yet the impulse to explore endures.” TIME editors say. “At its best, travel is a bridge—an opportunity to encounter new cultures, welcome visitors, and discover how much the unfamiliar can feel surprisingly familiar.”
