ST. JAMES, NY — The body of Thomas Medlin, a 15-year-old from Saint James, has been recovered, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Police said Medlin’s body was recovered from the water off Red Hook, in Brooklyn, on March 7. Authorities confirmed his identity on Thursday.

Medlin was first reported missing after leaving the Stony Brook School on Jan. 9 at approximately 3:30 p.m., police said. Investigators later determined his last known location was on the pedestrian walkway of the Manhattan Bridge that evening.

Police previously said video and digital evidence placed Medlin on the bridge at around 7:06 p.m., with the last activity on his cellphone occurring at about 7:09 p.m. A nearby surveillance camera captured a splash in the water at approximately 7:10 p.m., authorities said.

Police said investigators conducted extensive video canvassing and reviewed digital evidence as part of the investigation. Detectives also executed subpoenas and search warrants, examining multiple social media and online gaming profiles and conducting forensic examinations of electronic devices associated with Medlin.

That examination determined those platforms were not connected to his disappearance, police said.

Detectives said there was no indication of criminal activity connected to the case. Authorities said investigators have remained in communication with Medlin’s family and are continuing to work with law enforcement partners to bring closure.
