New York State Police have identified the victim of a cold case murder after nearly 56 years of investigating.
A man’s body was found without a head or hands along Davis Hill Road in Andover, Allegany County March 20, 1970, state police said. Investigators pursued several leads over the years but the man’s identity remained unknown.

The body was exhumed June 7, 2022 to collect DNA, and with the assistance of the FBI, investigators identified the victim as Clyde Coppage, 35, who was 35 years old and living in Genessee, Pennsylvania at the time of his disappearance, according to state police.
Police said Coppage was not from the area and had never been reported missing.
