On March 11, 2026, at approximately 5:27 p.m., State Police responded to the area of State Route 51 in the town of German Flatts for a reported motor vehicle accident.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 International Harvester box truck, operated by Joseph A. Dimasse, age 66, of Utica, NY, experienced a brake failure while traveling northwest on Spinnerville Gulf Road North and attempted to make a right turn at the intersection of State Route 51.

Dimasse was unable to make the turn and crossed State Route 51, exiting the roadway. The box truck traveled across the front lawn of 2731 State Route 51, overturning and striking the front porch and corner of the residence. The vehicle then continued and struck the corner of a residence located at 2735 State Route 51, where it came to rest.

No injuries were reported to the operator or any occupants of the residences.

The box truck was owned by C.P. Craska Inc., of Ilion, NY.

Members of the New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and determined the cause of the accident to be brake failure.

Seven traffic tickets were issued to Dimasse, returnable to the German Flatts Town Court.
