Washington DC psych-rock outfit Argo & The Violet Queens have shared their electrifying new single “Casablanca,” set for release on March 13th. The track captures the band’s raw chemistry and marks the latest step forward following a busy year of touring and creative growth.
Inspired by Peter Jackson’s Beatles documentary Get Back, the band approached the writing and recording of “Casablanca” with a stripped-back philosophy. Instead of relying on studio tricks or heavy production, Argo & The Violet Queens recorded the song live in the studio as a full band, sitting together as if performing on stage. With no separation, no overdubs, and no studio manipulation, the recording aims to capture the natural energy of a group that has grown up playing music together.
Sonically, the single reflects the band’s eclectic approach to songwriting. Argo & The Violet Queens blend bossa nova influences with classic indie song structures, creating a sound that sits comfortably between psychedelic rock, dance-driven grooves, and jazz-inspired rhythms.
Lyrically, “Casablanca” explores themes of mass consumerism in art and media and the feelings of alienation that can arise from it. Frontman Arav Goswami wrote the song during a winter period marked by isolation and reflection.
On the inspiration to write the song, Goswami explains:
“I wrote this song two years ago now in just an afternoon. Through my consumption of media and other not so savoury things, a potent sense of disconnection from the world and those around me began to take form.”
“Casablanca” was one of three live studio recordings completed by the band in the final days of 2025. The sessions came after an intense period for Argo & The Violet Queens, who performed over 65 live shows across three tours during the year. Those experiences helped shape the tight musical chemistry heard on the track.
Gradually building from restrained beginnings into a powerful crescendo, “Casablanca” guides listeners through feelings of escapism, disconnection, and the desire to reengage with the world. The result is a vivid snapshot of a band embracing spontaneity, capturing the analog warmth, intensity, and emotional honesty that define Argo & The Violet Queens’ evolving sound.
