We headed into Thursday, starting in the 2A Boys Division, where Queen’s Grant and Warren County met for the state title. Queen’s Grant, who came in as the title favorite to start the season, found themselves right where they wanted to be after an impressive overall season and now just being one game away from a championship. But Warren County was hoping to make a lot of noise with a win, as they went to battle down in Winston-Salem.

Queen’s Grant was able to flex its muscles early on, showcasing a strong offensive attack and jumping out to a double-digit lead at the end of the first quarter, 27-14.  That intensity though, never slowed down, as they looked to put this game away early and make a statement as one (if not the) best team in North Carolina. In the second half, Queen’s Grant was able to outscore Warren County 21-6, eventually leading 48-20 at halftime.

It was pretty even for much of the second half but Queen’s Grant was able to flex their muscles behind an impressive duo of Chase Smith and Mekhi Allen, who combined for 48 points.  When the final buzzer sounded, Queen’s Grant took home the 77-43 victory and the 2A State Championship.

Queen’s Grant absolutely dominated in the paint, scoring 68 of their team’s 77 points inside, while also holding a 25-8 edge in fastbreak points.
