New York City will deploy more than 80 crews across all five boroughs early Saturday in a major effort to repair potholes, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Friday.

The citywide “pothole repair blitz” will begin at 6 a.m., with crews working on streets and highways throughout the city. Officials expect thousands of potholes to be filled in a single day, with additional repairs planned in the coming weeks, according to a news release.

Officials say crews plan to repair thousands of potholes in a single day, with additional blitzes planned in the coming weeks

The DOT has fixed over 50,000 potholes since Jan. 1, including more than 10,000 in the past week

Since Jan. 1, the city’s Department of Transportation has repaired more than 50,000 potholes and maintained an average response time of just over two days, city officials said. More than 10,000 potholes have been filled in the past week.

The effort will coincide with the start of the city’s annual road resurfacing season, during which the DOT plans to resurface 1,150 lane miles of roadway this year, the press release said.

“While most New Yorkers are still asleep, 80 DOT crews will take to the streets to repair potholes in a five-borough blitz,” said Mamdani said in a statement. “In a single day, they’ll fill thousands of potholes that pop up every year as spring arrives and our city streets begin to thaw. Safe, accessible streets are a basic promise of city government, and after a historically brutal winter, I’m incredibly grateful to the DOT teams who are not wasting a moment of time in delivering the street improvements we need.”

Drivers should expect travel delays Saturday as crews work across the city.

Officials are encouraging residents to report potholes to 311 so they can be repaired as quickly as possible, the press release said.
