Talk about a nutty situation. The New York State Police are looking for information in connection with the theft of a large shipment of walnuts from commercial trailers in the Bronx last week.
Police say that on March 2, approximately 60,000 pounds of shelled walnuts were stolen from two 52-foot trailers in the Hunts Point area of the Bronx. The shipment, valued at approximately $50,000, contained palletized boxes of packaged walnuts intended for commercial distribution.
Investigators cracking into this nutty crime believe that the thieves may be attempting to resell the stolen snacks to third-party vendors, wholesalers or distributors in the New York City area. State police are asking businesses, food distributors, vendors, and members of the public to be on alert for anyone attempting to shell out large quantities of packaged walnuts, particularly if the prices they are being sold for are below market value or under unusual circumstances.
