Downtown Albany, local motel damaged in severe weather Thursday

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Along with other areas across Southwest Georgia, parts of downtown Albany were damaged during the severe storms on Thursday, March 12, morning.

An Albany motel, Albany 8 Inn, was damaged in the storms. The motel is located at 905 East Oglethorpe Boulevard.

No further details about the extent of the damage were confirmed. WALB is working to learn more.

Damage was also reported at Paradise Village of Albany on Holly Drive. High winds caused minor damage to Phoebe Urgent Care of East Albany this morning and the area was without power, according to the health system.

As of 5:30 p.m. Thursday, debris was cleared and the power is back on at Phoebe East. Normal operations will reportedly resume Friday morning at Phoebe Urgent Care of East Albany. Phoebe was able to serve Corporate Health clients Thursday with their Mobile Wellness Clinics. Officials said their Corporate Health clinic at Phoebe East will also reopen Friday morning.

Damage was also reported at Victory of Albany church.

The city of Albany says there are a number of traffic light outages, trees down and powerlines down.
