A 44-year-old man was killed when the SUV he was riding in rear-ended a parked backhoe on a Bronx street, police said Saturday.
The victim was a front-seat passenger in a 2017 Toyota Highlander heading west on E. 233rd St. near Provost Ave. in the Baychester section of the Bronx at about 10:30 p.m. Friday when the 24-year-old man driving lost control of the wheel, cops said.
The Highlander veered off, striking the massive piece of construction equipment parked on the block.

EMS rushed the 44-year-old passenger to Jacobi Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved. His name was not immediately disclosed as cops track down relatives.
The younger driver and a second 44-year-old man sitting in the back seat were also rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where they are expected to survive.
No arrests were made as members of the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad determines what sparked the crash.
