FAIRFIELD, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers Baseball team (6-10, 1-4 MAAC) narrowly dropped the middle game of the three-game set to the Stags of Fairfield University (5-9, 3-2 MAAC) by a score of 4-3 inside Don’63 and Chris ’88 Cook Field on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Jaspers fell behind in the home half of the first inning, before tying the game at one in the visiting half of the third inning with the corner bases occupied by Colin Basehore and Payton Matthews, respectively. Justin Best grounded out first to get the force before Matthews crossed the plate.
In the visiting half of the fifth inning with Basehore at second, Andreaus Lewis smashed a go-ahead home run down the right field line to put the Green and White ahead by one run.
With the Jaspers threatening at the top of the eighth and looking to put a man in scoring position, Trevor Hansen, after singling, was thrown out across the diamond after the Stags’ catcher launched a perfect throw to the shortstop to apply the tag on the Manhattan first baseman.
One last gasp for the Green and White in the visiting half of the ninth proved to be unsuccessful, with Guriyandel Salva tallying a single to right before advancing to second on a Matthews sacrifice bunt, but it was not enough.
