CANARSIE, Brooklyn (WABC) — Six people are injured, including 2 firefighters, after a massive fire ripped through a home in Brooklyn early Sunday morning.
The fire broke out around 3 a.m. at a three-story home on Conklin Avenue between East 94th and 95th streets in Canarsie.
Video captures firefighters on scene as heavy flames engulfed and thick smoke billowed from the building. According to the FDNY, the fire started on the first floor before quickly spreading to the second floor.
Officials say two people suffered serious injuries as a result of the fire. They were rushed to Brooklyn Hospital for treatment. Two others were taken to other area hospitals for minor and non-life-threatening injuries.
Two firefighters were also injured while battling the fire.
On Sunday morning, FDNY Assistant Chief Kevin Thomas spoke about the emergency response.
“Heavy fire conditions, and the engine companies made an aggressive push in with the handlines knocking down the fire. Fire marshals are investigating currently,” Thomas said.
About 140 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene to help extinguish the flames.
Authorities are now trying to determine the cause of the fire.
