MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) — A man is dead after collapsing to the ground on a Manhattan subway platform, according to police.

NYPD officers were alerted to the C and E platform at the 34th Street and Eighth Avenue subway station at 6:55 p.m. on Saturday for reports of an unconscious man, officials said.

Police found an unresponsive and unconscious 55-year-old on the platform in critical condition. He was rushed to Lenox Hill Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival by hospital staff.

Sources told PIX11 News the 55-year-old got into a fight with a man after the two bumped into each other on the northbound platform. The unknown man is said to have punched the victim in the face and then walked away.

Five minutes later, the 55-year-old collapsed to the ground, according to sources.

Police said there have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
