LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Manhattan Jaspers softball team (5-15, 1-2 MAAC), fell in its series finale against the Broncs from Rider (8-12, 3-3 MAAC) to open the MAAC portion of their schedule, by the final score of 11-3 in five innings at Herb & Joan Young Field on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Rider didn’t waste much time getting on the scoreboard, as a two RBI double put the Broncs on top in the first frame.
Following a leadoff single from Karissa Spring in the second, Brianna Estevez later brought her home from second base to put the Jaspers in the run column.
In the third, two runners found themselves in scoring position after a single and error got Natalye DeBus and Lainey Brown at third and second.
Katilyn Moody’s groundout sent DeBus to the plate, tying the contest at two-all.
The Broncs used a single and sacrifice fly to double their initial run total in the home half, ending the third at 4-2 in favor of the hosts.
In the fourth, the same sequence was used to add two more to the scoreboard, with the inning ending at 6-2 Broncs.
Jamie Falotico singled up the middle to bring home Caitlin Gaetani, who started the two out rally in the top of the fifth.
With two outs in the bottom of the frame, Rider put together four consecutive runs to end the game in walk-off fashion by inning’s end.
