Rochester, N.Y. — More than 1,000 students, teachers, and mentors from both local and international high schools will meet up at the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Gordon Field House on Saturday for the 22nd annual FIRST Robotics Finger Lakes Regional competition.

The event will feature 56 teams from the Northeast, Canada, Hawaii, and Taipei, all ready to compete in REBUILT, this year’s challenging new robotics game.

Robots designed and operated by student teams must score points by tossing bright yellow nerf balls into scoring hubs, navigating obstacles such as bumps and trenches, and completing ladder climbs—all while cooperating with alliance partners.

“I realized my school has this amazing program,” said Hailee Minor, a student at Lockport High School. “I was like, ‘ I want to do engineering in the future, it leads to scholarships and amazing people you meet along the way.”
