RIVERDALE, N.Y. – In her first head coaching gig, Brooke Alverson has been named the next head coach of the Manhattan Jaspers’ women’s volleyball program, as announced by Director of Athletics Irma Garcia on March 16.
“I’m very excited to get started at Manhattan, I look forward to fostering relationships between my athletes and future recruits, which I have done at all of my prior programs,” said Alverson.
Alverson remains in New York City after spending her last two years at Fordham in the Bronx, where she served as both Director of Administration and Branding for their women’s basketball program in 2024-25, as well as Associate Head Coach of the Rams’ women’s volleyball team this past fall.
“I’m incredibly excited for Manhattan and Coach Alverson. She has the knowledge, work ethic, passion, and resourcefulness to make an immediate impact in the MAAC. Most importantly, she genuinely cares about the welfare of the student-athlete and the people she works with. Manhattan got a good one,” added Ian Choi, former head coach at Fordham.
Originally from the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Alverson was also a part of the coaching staff of the 2022 Division II National Championship team at West Texas A&M, serving as an assistant coach on Kendra Potts’ staff.
“Brooke is a special coach because she truly sees and values every player as an individual. Her passion for the game of volleyball is contagious, and she builds genuine relationships with her athletes while also holding them to a very high standard in training. That combination of heart and competitive excellence is what makes her such an outstanding leader for this program. Manhattan hired a winner and I’m so excited to see this program make huge strides with Brooke leading the way,” commented Potts, now the head coach at Grand Canyon.
From there, she transitioned to a two-year stint inside the athletic communications office, putting a brief halt on her then-15 year coaching career.
“I love telling athlete’s stories, their day-to-day life with all of their on and off the court responsibilities deserve to be told.”
While serving as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, Alverson received the 2024 College Sports Communicators’ grant to attend their convention, learning from the best in the industry on how to pursue that passion for storytelling.
Alverson holds a unique connection to Riverdale, as her first three months in New York City were spent right between Manhattan’s campus and nearby college-preparatory school Horace Mann.
“I got very familiar with the area. I took all my morning runs around campus and got to know places like Joe’s Pizza and Lloyd’s Carrot Cake. The people here seem really close with lots of culture, and I loved that about this place. I only left for commuting reasons, and I’m thrilled to be back!” added Alverson.Â
Outside of the college level, the Texas native worked with over 210 clubs in the North Texas region for USA Volleyball, helping her establish a recruiting pipeline she’s been able to continue tapping into since relocating to the Northeast.Â
“I’m excited to revitalize the Jasper program. Playing at Corpus-Christi was my chance to see a program change from the bottom-up, and I look forward to building up our community both within and outside the program.”Â
