Firefighters responded to a Sunday morning apartment fire at the Whitby, the century-old W45th Street building known for its Broadway history and famous former residents.

The initial 911 call came in at 9:57am for a reported fire at the 10-story building at 325 W45th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues. Multiple residents reported smoke on floors ranging from the seventh down to the third before firefighters traced the source to a single fourth-floor apartment.
