ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State is reminding residents that the spring burn ban is now in effect.

The ban prohibits burning residential brush and will continue through May 14.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said open burning of debris is the biggest cause of spring wildfires in the State.

Backyard fire pits and campfires that are less than three feet high and four feet wide are still allowed.
