NEW JERSEY (WABC) — Monday night’s severe weather and strong wind gusts have caused mayhem in some parts of the Tri-State area.

Nearly 38,000 power outages in New Jersey were reported on Tuesday morning.

There are reports of trees falling in New York and New Jersey.

One tree fell and crushed the windshield of a car parked in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx. Its branches also hit a car parked across the street.

Over in Metuchen, NJ, trees and live wires fell down overnight.

On Grove Avenue, wires sparked and smoked from where they lay on the ground. The local fire department was on scene, monitoring those live wires.

Yesterday, hundreds of flights at regional airports were either cancelled or delayed as severe weather swept across the Tri-State area.

In Mount Pleasant, windy weather set the stage for a deadly collision Monday morning after a driver lost control when swerving to avoid a fallen tree.

If you’re headed out Tuesday, exercise caution on sidewalks and roads. There may be downed trees or loose branches, and a wind advisory is likely to continue until 11 a.m.
