The 2020 Freightliner struck the 2023 Freightliner. The 2023 Freightliner then struck the 2018 Freightliner. The preliminary investigation showed that the first two commercial vehicles were stopped in traffic due to a prior crash on the eastbound direction of the turnpike.
The driver of 2020 Freightliner was pronounced dead at the scene.
As a result of the crash, the turnpike was restricted to a single lane until the scene was cleared. It took five hours for the right and center lanes to be reopened.
The OSHP was assisted on scene by the Ohio Turnpike Commission Department of Maintenance and Madison Motors/Interstate Towing.
The Swanton Post of the Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
