KANKAKEE COUNTY — Search efforts are ongoing in Kankakee County and Aroma Park, after the area was hit by an EF-3 tornado last week.

Authorities last Thursday discovered the body of 65-year-old Maurice R. Norington, inside the rubble of a home damaged by the tornado. Norington’s death brought the lives lost to three from Tuesday’s tornadoes that swept through parts of Illinois and northwest Indiana.

The EF-3 tornado, with winds of up to 150 mph, touched down Tuesday night and caused widespread damage. The tornado tracked from just west of Aroma Park to Lake Village, Indiana, where two people were killed, before ending near DeMotte, Indiana.

Kankakee County officials stressed late last week and again Tuesday that strike teams, including K9s, emergency responders and drones, are canvassing the entire area hit by the storms.

There are currently no active reports of any missing people, but “these efforts are to be absolutely certain that there is no one unaccounted for,” the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office said.

The teams will be going door-to-door speaking with residents to confirm everyone’s well-being and confirm that everyone is safe and accounted for.

In the event you know of a person in the area struck by last week’s storms and have not spoken with them, please call 911.
