KINGSBRIDGE, the Bronx (PIX11) — An off-duty NYPD officer is suspected of shooting a 30-year-old man in the head in the Bronx Monday night, according to police and sources.

The detective fired two shots while the victim was in a car near 167 West 231st St. in Kingsbridge at around 9:15 p.m., according to the NYPD and sources.

The off-duty officer, who is assigned to the Intelligence Division, was possibly responding to a stolen vehicle when he got into a fight with several men, sources said. The cop then fired his weapon.

Authorities found the 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. The victim went to the hospital via private means and remained in critical condition as of Tuesday.

There have been no arrests.

The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is handling the case.
