Alexandria author Howie Southworth has received a nod from The New York Times on Tuesday on the publication of his most recent book, “Hemingway’s Spanish Table.”

Here’s what the newspaper had to say:

Traveling, eating and drinking across Spain in Ernest Hemingway’s footsteps has been commendably accomplished by the cookbook writer Howie Southworth, who could double for Stanley Tucci and has lived in Spain. “Hemingway’s Spanish Table” is a thorough survey, through the lens of itineraries in Hemingway’s writing. The author visited restaurants and bars similar to those that welcomed Hemingway. Many of the recipes come from chefs. The recipes lean traditional, though a cutting edge Japanese influence is noted. The classic pan con tomate, fragrant gambas al ajillo and lush braised oxtail should be in your repertoire. Homemade vermouth with half a dozen herbs and spices? Maybe not.

Southworth will celebrate the publication of his new book at Alexandria’s Casa Luna; the public is invited to join him for an intimate evening on Wednesday, April 8 to celebrate Hemingway’s Spanish Table.

In a room made for conversation, we’ll gather over Spanish wines, Casa Luna’s signature Papa Doble, worthy of the old man himself and light tapas while author Howie Southworth shares stories from the road. Madrid at dusk, Pamplona in festival light, the quiet sands of Valencia, the pulse of a Spanish bar. This is not a lecture. It’s a salon. A table. A glass raised among friends. Midweek, unhurried and warm. Come ready to listen, to sip and to stay awhile.

Space is limited. Find ticket information on EventBrite here. A Book Ticket includes a signed copy of Hemingway’s Spanish Table and adult refreshments. A No-Book Ticket still offers refreshment, but no book, perfect for a plus one or a single household.

Southworth covers Alexandria cuisine, restaurants and bars in his dining column “One Table at a Time,” for Alexandria Living Magazine. He is also the author of “A Taste of Alexandria,” published by Alexandria Living Magazine, featuring 200 pages of recipes and photos from top Alexandria restaurants.
