UPDATE:

On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at approximately 1:10 p.m., the New York State Police and the Oswego County Sherriff’s Office responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 southbound, south of Exit 126 in the town of Richland.

A preliminary investigation determined that the primary crash involved approximately 20 vehicles, including six-tractor trailers. In addition, approximately 20 other vehicles were in the area but were not directly involved and did not sustain damage.

The crash is believed to be weather-related due to white out conditions.

Two minor injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

Interstate 81 has since reopened.

Original Press Release: The New York State Police and Oswego County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 southbound in the town of Richland, Oswego County, between Exit 126 (Pulaski) and Exit 131 (Tinker Tavern).

The incident involves approximately 40 vehicles, including multiple tractor trailers.

Motorists should expect significant delays and are urged to avoid the area if possible.

Interstate 81 southbound at the Pulaski exit is currently closed so emergency vehicles can respond to the scene.
