“We’re still waiting here outside, waiting to see if they can tell us something about what they’re going to do, if they’re going to put us somewhere. With the cold, there’s a lot of people with illnesses, my daughter suffers from asthma, and my dad is a disabled person. Look at how my hands are full of smoke. Everything of ours got ruined, our clothes, our beds, everything’s ruined,” Ramos said.

Residents said one apartment is a day care.
Abdulai Bah, the store manager of Unique Thrift Store across the street, said he helped the day care children after the blaze.
“All I know is that the children, all of them are fine and they all came to the store,” he said.
Farida Ruemmely, who also lives in the building, said her apartment has some water damage but is otherwise O.K.
She said she is thinking of those affected.
“I pray they are O.K., that everybody are O.K., and I’m sad to see the apartment like that, I’m very sad, and it’s cold so its not easy to be outside so I am going to pray for them tonight,” Ruemmely told NY1. “Thank God my daughter was outside. I just — very worried about my apartment, especially for the animals.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Red Cross is on the scene.
