The Big Biscuit, a family owned chain known for the popular line “Don’t Mess With Breakfast” is making its way to Manhattan.

CEO Chad Offerdahl said the expansion to Manhattan has been years in the making, but the biggest hurdle for the brand was finding the right spot.

“We love the community, we travel to Manhattan often and it’s finally a blessing that we found a location that is right for The Big Biscuit because we’ve been trying to get in to Manhattan for quite some time,” Offerdahl said.

The restaurant will move into the former Carlos O’Kelly’s location at 622 Tuttle Creek Blvd. Carlos O’Kelly’s closed down in early January after 37 years of business in Manhattan.

Offerdahl said this location checked all the boxes for them, offering visibility and good proximity to other businesses in the area.

“It’s just right in the beating heart of the main hub of Manhattan, it’s where we believe we can best serve our guests,” Offerdahl said.

The restaurant serves multiple breakfast and lunch options, offering what Offerdahl describes as “unapologetically traditional comfort food.”

“When it comes to breakfast, it is a meal of routine, it is a meal of tradition, and we just believe strongly that if you want to come in and get bacon and eggs, you can come in and get bacon and eggs,” Offerdahl said.

Alongside the traditional breakfast items, The Big Biscuit also offers various fun and unique items he thinks all guests will enjoy.

Offerdahl said the restaurant still in the beginning stages of getting off the ground in Manhattan, with the next step — the construction phase — being a high priority.

Breakfast isn’t the only important thing to Offerdahl as they make their way to Manhattan — The Big Biscuit is looking to invest in the community.

“It’s important to us, it as an obligation to give back to the communities that support us,” said Offerdahl. “We support local groups, whether that be nonprofits, school systems, police departments, or fire departments.”

Offerdahl said they will be identifying groups that they can make the biggest impact on and support.

“We do invest deeply, we care,” he said. “A lot of people mistake The Big Biscuit as being this big national brand, but we’re a family owned company based right in Kansas City.”

Offerdahl said he’s looking forward to serving Manhattan and celebrating with the community on opening day.

“For those that want to try a locally owned, traditional family breakfast restaurant, we would love to have you, and anybody who’s interested in working on our team, it’s so much fun and a great opportunity,” Offerdahl said.

The Big Biscuit is expected to open mid to late summer of 2026.
