Family and friends gathered Tuesday to say their final goodbyes to beloved New York City news anchor Ernie Anastos.
The funeral service was held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in New Rochelle.
It’s a parish that Anastos and his family often called their home away from home.
Anastos spent 11 years as an anchor at Eyewitness News beginning in 1978 and enjoyed a memorable run as anchor of the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts before leaving in 1989.

Throughout his long career, Anastos also worked as an anchor at New York TV stations WCBS, WWOR and WNYW, and most recently became a voice on WABC 770 AM, where he hosted a show called Positively Ernie.
Anastos transcended the role of anchor, becoming a larger-than-life figure across the metropolitan area, a fixture at community events with a thriving social-media presence.
He is survived by his wife Kelly, two children and grandchildren.
Anastos died last Thursday at the age of 82.
