A new report from The Gothamist this week details the high cost of New York’s clean energy projects tied to President Trump’s tariff policies.

According to the report, tariffs increased clean energy project costs by 30 percent, and the Alliance for Clean Energy New York argues that the tariffs have made newer projects impossible.

Dozens of wind and solar projects are affected by the tariffs.

This report comes as a memo from the state’s energy authority outlines the already growing costs of New York’s green energy plans.

Governor Kathy Hochul says she’s looking to modify some of those climate policies and argues that current tariff policies are part of the problem.

“It’s not wrong,” said Hochul. “The costs of tariffs have jacked up the cost of these renewable energy projects that people are now saying we’re not doing them. So I want to say, where are we going?” Hochul said.

This tariff report also comes as the Trump administration has actively sought to pause offshore wind projects in New York, citing national security concerns.

Several judges have ordered those projects to continue.
