A 44-year-old man has died following a motor vehicle accident in the Eastchester section of The Bronx, police said.

 

They said that on Friday, March 13, at around 10.29 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call regarding a car crash at 1682 East 233rd Street They said that further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a 2017 Toyota Highlander, operated by a 24-year-old man, was traveling westbound on East 233rd Street when he failed to navigate the roadway and struck an unoccupied, parked DSNY Backhoe Loader truck.

 

“A 44-year-old male, front passenger in the Toyota was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi where he was pronounced deceased,” a police spokesperson said. “The 24-year-old male operator and a 44-year-old male rear passenger were transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition.”

 

Police said the driver of the Toyota remained at the scene, there are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad. They said the deceased has been identified as Mohamed Salim, 44, from the Wakefield section of The Bronx.

 

With collision investigations, the NYPD handles all criminal aspects of the investigations, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.
