What to know
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch pushed back against a city councilman’s claim that underserved neighborhoods are not seeing crime reductions, saying communities historically affected by gun violence are actually leading the city’s declines.
Councilman Oswald Feliz cited rising shootings and murders in the Bronx, but Tisch said more officers are being deployed there and predicted continued improvement as the borough is split into two commands.
During the budget hearing, Tisch also defended the Strategic Response Group amid calls for its disbandment and noted NYPD overtime dropped 12% last year following stricter oversight.
