1. Bronx high schooler detained by ICE returns to NYC

After 10 months away from New York City behind bars, Dylan Contreras is officially home. The 21-year-old high school student was able to be reunited with his family and community. 

Flanked by his mother, Raiza Contreras, and community advocates, Contreras spoke about his experience for the first time on Thursday.

2. Civil rights leaders demand answers after off-duty NYPD shooting

Civil rights leaders outside Gracie Mansion yesterday demanded Mayor Zohran Mamdani speak out after an off-duty NYPD officer shot a man in the Bronx earlier this week.

Police said on Monday night, the off-duty officer fired a weapon during a confrontation tied to a suspected stolen vehicle. Video of the incident showed a man pointing a gun toward another man near a parked car.

3. MTA replacing all orange and yellow seat cars on numbered lines

The MTA’s R62 subway cars are some of the oldest in the system — over 40 years old — and are often responsible for delays, breaking down more often than most others.

The transit agency announced yesterday that they’re replacing the cars. It’s is looking for companies with innovative ideas to make them more efficient and reliable, but also pleasing for customers.
