The Mamdani administration says more New Yorkers could be taking advantage of the city’s free tax preparation services.

In an interview with NY1 anchor Shannan Ferry, Sam Levine, commissioner for the city’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, said the city’s tax prep services can help New Yorkers save money.

“Most New Yorkers qualify for free,” Levine said. “For anyone offering to make ends meet right, why pay someone three, four, five hundred dollars to file your taxes when you can get the service entirely for free?”

The free tax prep services are available to individuals and couples, without dependents, who made up to $68,000, and families who made up to $97,000.

In-person tax preparation is available at over 140 sites across the five boroughs. Drop-off, virtual and assisted self-preparation options are also available.
