Following Dozens of Tire Blowouts Between GWB and FDR Drive, NYC DOT Announces Repaving Plans
The Trans Manhattan Expressway, a long-standing pain point for drivers crossing the George Washington Bridge into NYC due to its numerous potholes causing tire blowouts, is now scheduled for repaving over the next two weeks.
Chaverim of Brooklyn strongly advocated for this project after its volunteers became familiar with the location, responding to repeated calls for assistance with tire blowouts during rainy days when limited visibility obscures the potholes.
The repaving of the Trans Manhattan Expressway connector ramp from the Harlem River Drive to the George Washington Bridge will occur in two phases. The southbound lanes will be repaved from Monday, October 27, to Friday, October 31, with both lanes closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
The northbound lanes will be repaved the following week, from Monday, November 3, to Friday, November 7.
Chaverim expressed gratitude to Brooklyn Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein, Pinny Ringel from the NYC Department of Transportation, and Ira Tenenbaum from NYC’s Office of Emergency Management for their efforts in initiating this long-overdue roadwork.
