Rear‑end crash during Thruway traffic stop injures state trooper

Police body camera video on New York’s Thruway captures a crash in Westchester County, injuring a state trooper.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — A terrifying moment along the New York State Thruway was caught on police body camera.

The footage shows the moment when a traffic stop turned into a serious crash in Westchester County. That’s where state police had pulled over a Mercedes on the Thruway.

While troopers were standing by the vehicle, a Chevrolet suburban rear-ended the patrol car. It was then shoved into the Mercedes, which hit a trooper. He was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and later released.

The driver of the suburban was also taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.

There was no immediate word on any possible charges.
