MADISON, N.J. — The New York Cosmos and Morris Elite Soccer Club announced that Darrell Etienne was named the new head coach of Cosmos B, the official reserve team for the New York Cosmos USL League One franchise.
Etienne, 51, is former Haitian international and member of the Long Island Rough Riders, who captured the 2002 USL Pro League crown. He is the twin brother of Derrick Etienne, who also competed for those two teams.
Cosmos B will compete in the USL Academy League beginning in the 2026 season, with preseason training set to kick off in early January.
Cosmos B will play all home matches at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, NJ. The team is fully operated by Morris Elite Soccer Club, led by club founder and president Vincenzo Bernardo, who also serves as a minority owner and member of the soccer committee for the New York Cosmos.
Etienne, a respected figure in the U.S. soccer community, brings a wealth of experience and player development expertise to the program.
“Darrell is a great fit for this role,” Bernardo, president of Morris Elite, said in a statement. “He understands what it takes to guide and prepare players for the next level. The purpose of Cosmos B is to identify local talent, showcase their ability, and develop them within a professional environment. Our ultimate goal is to see players progress into the Cosmos first team.”
Cosmos B will serve as a step in the Cosmos player development pathway, offering elite local and regional players the opportunity to train, compete, and grow within a professional structure while being closely aligned with the first team’s standards and philosophy.
Cosmos B’s first tryout was held on Saturday, Oct. 25 and will continue to host tryout opportunities in the upcoming months.
