The 2026 season became a historic year for Bolton High School boys’ basketball. The Eagles earned their first-ever state championship in program history after a 66-49 win against the Sackets Harbor High School Patriots in the New York Class D state championship game. “I feel amazing,” said Bolton boys’ basketball senior guard Jace Hubert in an interview with Section VII athletics. “I can’t feel any better. Been waiting for this my entire career, since elementary school. It feels amazing.”The Eagles found themselves trailing for most of the first half but battled back in the second quarter to take a 30-27 lead into halftime. Bolton then went on a fourth-quarter surge, changing a 45-40 lead into a 55-40 lead after a 10-0 Eagle run to close out the game. “It’s unreal,” said Bolton boys’ basketball head coach Cody Kober in an interview with Section VII athletics. “It was surreal, it was an out-of-body experience … we were built for this.”After their championship victory, the Bolton community showered the team in their hometown with praise. Melanie Parsons, the Bolton High School softball coach, organized a parade when the team arrived back in town to celebrate their dream season. The Eagles finished their 2025-26 campaign with a 26-1 overall record, 14-0 undefeated mark in conference, their second straight Section VII championship title, and a New York regional championship title.Bolton becomes the first Section VII school to win a state championship in boys’ basketball since Moriah High School did it in 2017. The Vikings won the Class D state title with a 61-52 win against Newfield High School back on March 18, 2017. Bolton’s star forward Liam Foy also ended his high school basketball career on a high note. Foy picked up his 1000th career point in the state championship game, joining his teammates Hubert and Jaxon Egloff to exceed 1,000 or more career points in his career.
