A Brooklyn community has been shaken by a deadly stabbing in Crown Heights.

Police say two women in their 70s were attacked inside an apartment building. One of the women died from her injuries. A “person of interest” is in custody, according to the New York Police Dept.

The violence unfolded at the Ebbets Field Houses on Bedford Avenue.

A neighbor tells NBC New York the she heard screams from behind her apartment door. “We could hear what the police were saying,” said Diana Harris. “The lady was going in cardiac arrest. They needed to do CPR.”
Harris was stunned by the violence. “They were trying to get into the apartment. They couldn’t get in because it’s metal doors.”

The woman who was killed was 74-years-old. Police say she was stabbed multiple times in Saturday night’s attack. “We heard the cops outside, all saying someone was stabbed with the scissors, and they needed to enter in the apartment,” said Harris.

The other victim is 72-years-old and expected to recover. Harris says the victims lived on the 13th floor. She believes an argument between roommates turned physical. “We see them all the time, but for some reason last night when they came up the elevator, they were shouting, arguing, and so forth,” Harris told News 4. “It looked like they had an issue with the lady that was already inside of the apartment.”

Another neighbor named “Mary” who declined to give her last name called the stabbings “horrible.” She says a letter carrier was stabbed in the lobby last week.
