New York’s LaGuardia Airport was closed to incoming flights from across the US and Canada early Monday following reports of a collision between an Air Canada Express plane and a ground vehicle.
The Federal Aviation Administration ordered the ground stop for the airport, citing an emergency. The restriction will remain in place from 12:04 a.m. local time to 1:30 a.m, though it’s highly likely the time period will be extended, according to the advisory.

Images circulating on social media appeared to show an Air Canada plane tilted on its tail with the nose of the aircraft ripped off. Bloomberg hasn’t been able to verify the authenticity of those images. It’s unclear whether there are any casualties from the incident.
Air Canada and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates LaGuardia, didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment outside normal business hours. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board also didn’t immediately respond to queries.
According to FlightRadar24, the aircraft involved in the collision is a 20-year-old CRJ-900LR.
Flight AC8646 took off from Montreal and landed at LaGuardia at 11:37 p.m. local time, FlightRadar24 records show.
