NEW HYDE PARK, NY — A 63-year-old Bellerose Terrace man pleaded not guilty to endangering the welfare of a child Sunday, court documents show. The charges stem from a Wednesday incident wherein the man attempted to pay a 15-year-old girl to get into his Jeep, police said.
Nassau County police said 63-year-old Robert Chapman approached the girl at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and offered her money to get in the tan Jeep Liberty, which she refused to do. After the refusal, police said Chapman drove off. Chapman was arrested without incident after an investigation, police said.
Police said Chapman would be charged with endangering the welfare of a child and arraigned Sunday. Court documents indicate that he has pleaded not guilty and is due back in court Apr. 18. Police have also said that anyone that may have been a victim of Chapman should call crime stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
