NEW YORK CITY — LaGuardia Airport reopened Monday afternoon after a plane crashed into a fire truck at the airport Sunday night, killing two and injuring others.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as well as the airport itself confirmed the reopening.

“LaGuardia Airport is now open, expect delays and, or cancellations. Plan ahead and check with your airline for the latest updates,” the airport posted on X.

The crash happened around 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Port Authority. A Jazz Aviation flight operating on behalf of Air Canada struck a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicle that was responding to a separate incident.

Videos posted to social media show the moment the plane crashed into the fire truck.

Dispatch audio from the incident has been released by CBS News. You can hear an air traffic controller trying to stop the fire truck from colliding with the plane.

Additionally, 41 people were transported to the hospital; 39 people on the aircraft and two ARFF officers, the Port Authority said.

“The Port Authority advises travelers to check with their airline for the latest flight information before coming to the airport,” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in a statement.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
