The largest bees nest ever seen in Western New York was found in a home in Angola, New York.

It was a wasp nest that measured about 3 feet long and was found in the attic nearly 40 years ago in Angola, New York and is now on display. If you have ever been to the Buffalo Museum of science, the absolutely massive wasp nest is located there for you to go see.

How do wasps make a big nest?

Wasps will use their saliva and wood fibers in order to create the paper mache like nests that you may see. Sometimes yellow jacket nests are under the ground in vacant rodent holes or in trees. In bad situations for homeowners, sometimes yellow jackets will form nests in the voids of walls and homes making it sometimes a disaster to control.

The queen will start the nest in the springtime and by late summer there could be thousands of wasps inside of your home. Typically, a wasp nest will only be the size of about a basketball and last only one season, but somehow the record-breaking nest in Western New York somehow had to be going on for years.

It is important to note that if you have a problem like this inside of your home you should call an exterminator because yellow jackets are the most aggressive species of wasps. They can string multiple times without dying and if people get stung too many times it can lead to a potential death.
