CITY ISLAND, The Bronx (WABC) — A man has been arrested and charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend in the Bronx, according to police.
Franklin Batallas, 44, was charged on Friday with murder, two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
The arrest comes after the 30-year-old victim, Anthonella Contreras Linarez, was stabbed on City Island on Wednesday night.
Police say Contreras Linarez’s boyfriend, Batallas, concocted a story about the couple being stabbed by people on mopeds.
He originally told police the stabbing took place near Park Drive and City Island Road around 8 p.m. He said he was also stabbed in the arm, and drove them to a hospital in New Rochelle, where Contreras Linarez was pronounced dead.
An investigation led police to arrest and charge Batallas in connection with her murder.
Police say the couple was in the process of breaking up.
Mount Sinai Hospital says Contreras Linarez was a registered nurse at Mount Sinai Morningside.
“The Mount Sinai Health System community is mourning the loss of one of our own. We wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to family, friends and colleagues, and ask that you keep them in your thoughts,” Mount Sinai Hospital said in a statement.
